The Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission hosts meetings and workshops on a regular basis. In addition we occasionally publish project related requests for proposal. Below is a listing of those events, as well as any RFP's or Grant opportunities available to our member towns. Real-time Flooding Information

It's springtime in Vermont, which means flooding is a distinct possibility. Keep up to date with NOAA's Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service. This web site will give you access to the latest in flood conditions and warnings. See the link below.

TRORC Releases Floodplain Fact Sheets

The Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission has just released a series of fact sheets to help educate local officials and residents about flood hazards and floodplain management. These documents were produced by TRORC in cooperation with Vermont Law School’s Land Use Institute, and the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, with Samantha Riley Medlock, CFM V.L.S. ’08, as principal author.

The series features six fact sheets which address the following topics:

  • Floodplain Basics
  • Protecting Property Rights to Reduce Liability
  • Living With Inadequate Maps
  • Using Freeboard and Setbacks to Reduce Damage
  • No Adverse Impact Floodplain Management
  • Protecting Lives and Property Through the NFIP Community Rating System

"Get The Dirt On Soil" Workshop

The Ottauquechee Natural Resources Conservation District hosts welcomes Dr. Heather Darby, Agronomic and Soils Specialist from UVM Extension, as she presents an informal workshop with a lecture, hands on activity and demonstrations, is tailor made for farmers and gardeners. Come and learn about soil basics covering:

  • Soil structure
  • Demonstrations with a rain maker and erosion
  • What is soil health?
  • How to build and maintain soil for long term
  • What lives in the soil and soil biology
  • How & why to improve the soil
  • Nutrient uptake in the soil
  • Importance of organic matter

Getting Prepared to Save Energy and Reduce Carbon in Your Community: Assessment Tools and Resources

This hands-on technical workshop & training is aimed at planners, architects, zoning administrators, public works officials, conservation commission members, energy and climate action committee members, interns, staff, and consultants who are interested in helping to advance community energy and greenhouse gas assessments. Topics will include the EPA Municipal Energy Challenge, Community-wide greenhouse gas emissions assessment tools, Green Community Technology Assessment Tool and the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnership-High Performance Schools Protocol.

Grant Opportunities/Deadlines

Municipal Education Grant (MEG) Program

The Municipal Education Grant program (MEG) provides municipalities with funds for training volunteer boards and commissions to help them perform their duties as defined under 24 V.S.A. Chapter 117. The fund is designed to bring trainers directly to the community so that all members of the land use boards and commissions have the opportunity for basic and on-going education.

Municipalities may apply for a grant of up to $800 any time before May 16, 2008. The state will reimburse the municipality for the grant amount after the training has taken place and expenses have been paid. For more information, use the link below.
