Land Use Planning

Connections to State and Federal Planning

State planning can take a variety of forms. All state agencies whose actions can affect land use are required to prepare agency plans that take into account state, regional and local planning objectives. Agencies prepare plans on specific topics (e.g. telecommunications), and locations (e.g. a state forest). We are often asked to review these documents for regional compatibility.

Federal agencies also prepare plans for their lands in the state, such as the Green Mountain National Forest. Federal agencies also formulate policy that can have land use implications for the region and we occasionally comment on these.
