The Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission (TRORC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Geoff Martin as TRORC’s Intermunicipal Regional Energy Coordinator.
Mr. Martin recently served as the Energy Coordinator for the Town of Hartford, VT. He holds a Master’s degree from Emory University and has experience in state climate and energy policy.
TRORC was approached late last year by six towns in the TRORC region about hiring staff support to achieve actions and programs implementing each towns’ adopted energy plan. Those towns were Barnard, Fairlee, Sharon, Strafford, Thetford and Woodstock. Following the approval by voters in each of these towns to fund this work, and the execution of an Intermunicipal Energy Agreement articulating responsibilities and roles among the towns and TRORC, the first locally funded, shared service of its kind is off and running.
Tasks and programs focused on by Martin will be driven by a Steering Committee from the six towns and will include the priorities of each town. Energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emission reduction and other programs that help to meet Vermont’s Comprehensive Energy Plan goals will be the focus of the work.
Peter Gregory, Executive Director of TRORC, indicated he “is excited to provide this service to these member communities. I see more shared service arrangements in the coming years as a way to provide expanded support for our members. Legislative authority to contract with communities in this way was enabled a few years ago by the Vermont Legislature.”
TRORC provides professional planning, mapping, facilitation, grant writing, and project management services for its thirty member towns in east-central Vermont.
