Registration is now open for the
2016 Town Officers Education Conferences
Registration is open! The annual Town Officers’ Education Conferences, which provide training for more than 300 municipal officials and citizen volunteers, are scheduled for three Vermont locations in April 2016.

The conferences, now in their 71st year, are organized by University of Vermont Extension in partnership with several participating organizations. They are designed to help town clerks, planners, listers, select board members and other officials do their jobs more effectively by providing updates on tax laws and regulations, municipal recordkeeping and effective strategies for handling planning, zoning and other town issues. Important Notice: As of April 6, the cost of registration will increase to $75. If using a credit card, payment is due at registration. If paying by cash or check, then the registration fee will be due by the conference date.

L950 – Incident Commander
April 11, 12, 13, 14, & 15, 2016
8:00AM – 4:30PM each day (40 Hours)

Course Description: This course is designed to provide local and state-level emergency responders with a robust understanding of the duties, responsibilities, and capabilities of an effective IC on an All-Hazards Incident Management Team. These responsibilities fall into two categories:
1) responding to the incident and command needs of the incident, effectively fulfilling the position responsibilities of an Incident Commander on an All-Hazards ICS Incident Management Team.
2) Exercises, simulations, discussions, and a final exam enable participants to process and apply their new knowledge.
Target Audience: NIMS ICS Position Specific training should be completed by personnel who are regularly assigned to functional, support, or unit leader positions on USFA or other Type III AHIMT, or by those persons who desire to seek credentials/certification in those positions. Attendance preference will be given to FEMA Region I states: All other applicants will go on a waiting list
DEMHS Registration Process for NIMS ICS All Hazard Position Specific Course:
- Applicants MUST MEET prerequisites at the time of REGISTRATION.
- Late registrations accepted on a case-by-case basis.
- Applications must be submitted by 3:00PM on March 30, 2016.
STEPS FOR REGISTERING for a DEMHS ICS ALL HAZARDS POSITION SPECIFIC Course:
- Complete & Submit the DEMHS All Hazards Position Specific Course Registration form.
- FEMA Registration 119 Form. Complete with the appropriate signatures, save and email to the Homeland Security Training Coordinator.
- Save and email all above documentation and additional documents to meet the prerequisite requirement. [email protected].
***Prerequisites for each of the below courses are ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 300, ICS 400, IS 700 & IS 800.
- Course deadline is March 30, 2016.

Patricia Salkin’s talk, titled “Gaming the Future: A Winning Strategy for Land Use and Sustainable Development,” explores how land use and land development can be viewed through the lens of game theory with many players in the land use game and multiple agendas and strategies to ultimately create winners and losers. Dean Salkin will discuss the goals of community development and sustainability in terms of what ought to be the rules of the game and the winning strategies. Patricia Salkin is the Dean and a Professor of Law at Touro Law Center and the Interim Provost of the Touro College Graduate and Professional Divisions. On Saturday, April 23 Sustainable Woodstock will be hosting a community recycling event for items that are not readily recyclable but have a value to someone – everything from printer cartridges to bubble wrap. Anyone can participate for someone else’s trash may be your treasure! A shredder and electronics recycling, also. For more information contact Sally or call 457-2911.
