VCDP Approved Historic Preservation Consultant Training @ National Life Building
Sep 23 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Greetings Developers, Housing Authorities, Non-Profit Community Development Organizations and Consultants:

The Department of Housing and Community Development (in conjunction with the Division for Historic Preservation) is holding its Annual VCDP Approved Historic Preservation Consultant Training on Friday, September 23rd 9am to 4pm. The training will be held at our offices in the National Life Building, Basement Level, Montpelier Conference Room. Attendance is required by our approved historic preservation consultants who will be on our list to conduct Section 106 reviews for projects awarded Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for the October 2016-September 2017 program year.

We want to encourage you to attend the training along with the approved consultants to hear how the Division for Historic Preservation is interpreting the Secretary of Interior Standards, what guidance and instructions are being given to the approved consultants from a process and procedural standpoint to be on the same page when the consultant is providing you with a Section 106 report for your project. This training is a great opportunity to be informed of what is required to satisfy the Section 106 review requirements, receive newly developed guidance materials, be briefed on best practice approaches for timing and completing a Section 106 Review, meet the historic preservation consultants that will be on the approved list for the upcoming program year, and ask clarifying questions of the staff.

The training is an excellent overview of the program and how to approach the Section 106 review as one component of the larger Environmental Review required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

The morning session of the training will include a program overview and general Section 106 guidance and the afternoon will include more detailed, technical architectural and archaeological information for the historic preservation consultants. You all are welcome to stay for the entirety of the training, or leave after the morning session. The formal agenda for training is still being developed at this time and will be forwarded as soon it is finalized.

If you have received this invitation as an Executive Director, CEO or President; we ask that you please pass this invitation on to any and all staff that may be interested in attending. There is no limit to the number of staff an organization can send. Please do respond to this e-mail with the names of those who plan on attending the training, as we need to provide a full list to our front desk security.

Please follow-up with me if you have any questions.

Best,

Quin Mann, Environmental Officer
