Hazard Mitigation Planning 

The Town of Chelsea is beginning the process of updating its Local Hazard Mitigation Plan. Local Hazard Mitigation Plans enable towns to qualify for grant funds, and they make our communities safer. The first Chelsea Hazard Mitigation planning meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 3rd, 2021, at 5:30 PM via Zoom. The focus of the meeting will be to provide an introduction to hazard mitigation planning and to conduct a hazard ranking exercise. 

The meeting is open to all interested community members.

Local Hazard Mitigation Plans are part of an effort by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reduce damage from foreseeable natural and human-caused hazards. Examples of projects in local plans include increasing culvert sizes, regulating flood hazard areas, stabilizing landslides, and tree trimming near power lines. The third Royalton Hazard Mitigation planning meeting is scheduled for the Town Selectboard Meeting on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Clerk’s Office, 2460 Vermont Route 14, South Royalton, VT 06068.

Woodstock Hazard Mitigation Plan – Second Public Meeting @ Woodstock Town Office

The Town and Village of Woodstock is in the process of updating its Local Hazard Mitigation Plan. Local Hazard Mitigation Plans enable towns to qualify for grant funds, and they make our communities safer. The second Woodstock Hazard Mitigation planning meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 16, 2021, at 6:30 PM at the Woodstock Town Hall, 31 The Green, Woodstock, VT 05091. The focus of the meeting will be to draft mitigation strategies for town-identified top hazards.

The meeting is open to all interested community members. Local Hazard Mitigation Plans are part of an effort by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reduce damage from foreseeable natural and human-caused hazards.   1. Keys to the Valley – Implementation (attachment). Kevin Geiger will lead a discussion on the top priorities for implementing the Keys to the Valley Housing Initiative that TRORC has been engaged in with two other regional planning commissions over the last 18 months.  Concurrence with these priorities, or some variation on these, will guide our Legislative work and our next phase of the campaign.

 

  1. American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) (summary attached). Sarah Wraight has been the lead staff person in advising municipalities on the use of these federal funds.  She will go over the details and answer questions about the attached summary.
