Annual Meeting
This training provides an introduction for members of local planning commissions, zoning and development review boards, selectboards and other town officials. The four main areas that Kevin Geiger will cover in this training are: 1) Planning for a Vibrant Sustainable Community 2) Roles and Responsibilities of various municipal boards 3) Ways to Implement the plan 4) Overview of Meetings, Hearings, and Due process. Chairs please pass the training information along to other members on your boards. If you are receiving this message and are no longer part of the board please let me know and I will forward it on to the appropriate person. There will be two meetings during the last week of March in West Fairlee and Royalton. Please let me know if you plan on attending either one of the meetings.

March 29, 2017. 5:30pm – 7:30pm. Making River Corridors Work for You webinar. During the webinar, ANR Rivers Program staff expert, Rebecca Pfeiffer, will share information about the importance of river corridors and how towns can get the most from the Emergency Relief and Assistance Fund and model river corridor bylaws. Plus, Lake Champlain Sea Grant staff will share tips for using the ANR Atlas for town resiliency planning. Register Here!

Royalton Area Meeting

Each program opens with great light food fare from Black Krim Tavern and offers an opportunity to post – and promote – organizing actions that people are committed to act on; an opportunity to launch new ideas, recruit participants and/or inspire deeper engagement… anything that strengthens local capacity and stronger, interconnected communities.
- March 22: The film, “The Economics of Happiness” and dialogue with filmmaker Steven Gorelick (the film offers an overview of why the current global economic model is failing the vast majority of humanity… and then offers positive, dynamic localization actions seen on six continents)
- March 29: “Know Your Farmer — Feed Your Farmer” – a celebration of our local food system and farmers (for one night we turn the tables and the eaters feed the farmers; also many great stories from farmers we know and live music)
- April 12: “Local Dollars, Local Sense” talk with Gwen Hallsmith of Vermonters for a New Economy (actions that we can take at local and state level, including a state bank commission and much more about localizing money exchange and investment)
- April 19: “Slow Democracy” with presenter Susan Clark (author of Slow Democracy; what is the scale at which democracies work well… and how to keep them vibrant)
- May 10: “Learning from Our Local Past” with Camden Walters and Euclid Farnham (what can we learn from our past that can help us relocalize our communities)
- May 24: To be Announced
Organized by BALE (Building A Local Economy) in partnership with Local Futures, Vermonters for a New Economy, Sustainable Woodstock, Rural Vermont, Alliance for Vermont Communities, Peace & Justice Committee of Bethany Church, and Feast & Field Market.
Supported by the New England Grassroots Environment Fund, Larsen Family Fund, Sustainable Future Fund of the Vermont Community Foundation and Catamount Solar Community Grants.
This basic CERT Training is required to be a member of a CERT team. However, the course will cover good basic information for anyone to have in an emergency or disaster, so all are encouraged to come and learn. We are in the process of re-establishing a CERT team in this (LEPC 12) area, and there are several other established teams throughout the state. Taking the course does not obligate you to joining a CERT team.
Location: This course will be held at the Woodstock Safety Complex Building Meeting Room, Rt 4, Woodstock, VT.
Dates: April 8 (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), April 9 (9:00am -1:00 pm), April 15 (8:00am – 5:00 pm)
Cost: The course is free; you will be provided with a flash drive with the CERT Basic Course Participant Manual.
If you want a printed one, I can get them for about $20/each; let me know ahead of time.
