The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) invites you to a free half-day compliance assistance workshop on Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) and Clean Air Act, Section 112(r) Risk Management Program (RMP). These workshops are designed for new environmental compliance managers. The workshop will cover threshold determinations, exemptions and other commonly asked questions. For compliance with EPCRA and RMP, there are various planning and reporting requirements on businesses and industries that store and/or use certain chemicals and materials.
EPCRA and RMP were designed to protect your business, your employees and your community should a chemical accident occur. The EPCRA data and Risk Management Plan better prepares emergency response personnel and the community to handle an incident should one occur. The RMP program requires the submission of a RMP plan and coordination with the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) prior to the storage of RMP chemicals above the threshold quantities.
Let us help you to make your business and community a safer place. EPCRA requires facilities having certain chemicals, with quantities as low as one pound, to submit annual chemical inventory (Tier 2) reports. For calendar year 2015, the reporting deadline is March 1, 2016. By attending a workshop, you could avoid an enforcement action under EPCRA resulting in penalties of up to $37,500 per chemical violation, per day. Likewise, the Risk Management Plan helps to ensure the safe storage, use and processing of chemicals at a facility.

Cultivating Climate Resilience Conference 2016
An Education Summit for Empowerment & Action
Saturday, April 9, 2016
Montpelier High School – Montpelier, Vermont
Keynote Speaker: Lesley-Ann Dupigny-Giroux, Vermont State Climatologist & Chair of the Department of Geography at the University of Vermont
~~Registration information coming soon!~~
Today’s environmental educators must address climate change. This deeply complex global issue is the context for every lesson we teach, whether we make it explicit or not. Furthermore, our audiences are looking for guidance to help them navigate the decisions that must be made by individuals, communities, countries, and the world at large. We have the opportunity to step up as leaders in this arena, and many of us feel a responsibility to do so.
As one of the six member states in NEEEA, SWEEP has received an EPA grant to advance climate change education. With these funds, SWEEP will profile selected schools that are implementing climate resilience practices (such as solar panels and energy efficiency measures) and teaching climate resilience curricula to their students. A sub-grant will go to Shelburne Farms to find these schools and write a case study on each. These school stories will be featured at theCultivating Climate Resilience Conference in April 2016 to inspire climate resilience actions in other schools across the state and the broader region.
Through this work, SWEEP will elevate the conversation about climate change and energize action to address it. This initiative needs a cohesive, motivated network of Vermont educators ready to get to work. Please join our effort!
