ADUs: How Homeowners Can Become Home Creators

Wed, Nov 3, 5:30-7 pm, Zoom

Register: vitalcommunities.org/adus

What are “accessory dwelling units” (ADUs), and how can they help address our regional housing shortage? Find out in this free, virtual discussion! For homeowners, planners, renters, policymakers, contractors, and anyone who wants to make our communities more vital and inclusive.

Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)—a home built on a lot of an existing home—offer one approach that communities and ordinary homeowners can use to create much-needed housing that fits within the context of a surrounding neighborhood. This event will explore:

(1) how ADUs have positively impacted the lives of their inhabitants, and

(2) what’s preventing more widespread construction of ADUs, and

(3) what are some strategies for addressing barriers.

Panelists will include:
· Christopher Lee, Backyard ADUs
· RJ Adler, Wheel Pad
· Tyler Maas, Vermont State Housing Authority
· Barbara Conrey, Sustainable Montpelier Coalition

Strafford Community Solar Informational Session
Nov 8 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

The Strafford Energy and Climate Committee and Vermont Law School are organizing a community solar array, located in Strafford for the benefit of the community. This community array will provide an excellent option for renters, or anyone that doesn’t have the orientation or space to add solar to their property. Get the advantages of solar, like lower electricity costs and zero-emissions power, from an offsite location. And as long as you stay within Green Mountain Power territory, you can take the solar with you if you move!

Come learn more at a Zoom informational session on Monday, November 8th at 5:30 pm. Vermont Law School’s Energy Clinic will give an overview of the project, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and see if owning a share of this community solar project is right for you.
